Sunday Night we brough home the most Beautiful wood/cook Stove. While cleaning it we found the stamp in the cast iron saying it was made Sept 20 1906. It is a Windsor cooking wood stove with a water reservoir, a large oven, a cook top and one of the burners turns up to cook oatmeal on it. I will post pic's once it is all put back together. We are currently cleaning it and sealing any cracks.
I can't find a whole heck of a lot of info on these things so i had to order to books off Amazon. I searched all the librarys in the metro area and not a single one on this topic. Im not worried about cooking as I love trial and error, I am worried about how far the stove needs to be from walls to be fire safe. I have no idea what kind of heat this baby is going to give off. If you know please let me know.
How did we aquire such a beauty? Craiglists of course. Jeremy and I drove to Turtle Lake, Wi Sunday night and bought the stove from an older man. This man was amazing, he still uses draft horses to plow his field, the stove has been used since this last year so no rust. He still uses a wood burning stove but moved onto a larger model to heat his home. The stove is incrediably heavy even taken apart but this man moved the heavy end like it was nothing. Jeremy and our neighbor moved it into the home last night taking several breaks and for a moment thought they couldn't go any further. With a little Amy exceitment and encouragement the men decided to get it over the hump and then push it across the floor on a thick rug (thanks for the rug Jo)! So know I have this beautiful stove in my kitchen with the doors still off for cleaning and the cat continually jumping in the ashes to check out everything out. I will need to get the doors on soon because my floor is filling quickly with paw prints. I will post pic's tonight.
